A Framework for K-12 Science Education [Frameworks], (NRC, 2012) advocates that K-12 classroom science curriculum and instruction should blend the scientific and engineering practices, core disciplinary ideas and crosscutting concepts. However, preschool and primary classrooms do not regularly teach science despite the fact that teaching science in this manner lends itself to building upon curiosity, exploration and inquiry skills that are essential to academic success (Keeley, 2009; Riedinger, Marbach-Ad, McGinnis, Hestness, & Pease, 2010, Trygstad, Smith, Banilower, Nelson, 2013)."
